Gobabeb is located at 23°34’S, 15°03’E in the Namib-Naukluft Park, in the Namib Desert--one of the oldest and most spectacular deserts in the world. The nearest town, Walvis Bay, is 120 km away.

These ecosystems support a striking abundance of life is found, including many endemic species, such as the welwitschia and the !nara.

The site is on the boundary between the western fog-belt and the inland rainfall areas, and lies approximately where the winter and summer rainfall areas merge.
