Working for Gobabeb is more than doing a job. It's a chance to contribute to a widely respected non-governmental organization, to satisfy a university practicum requirement, to gain valuable work experience, or simply to experience the beautiful Namib Desert with a group of fun and interesting people.
For hundreds of young Namibians, and for hundreds of young people from all over the world, working at Gobabeb has been like a rite of passage. If you haven’t experienced Gobabeb, you haven’t seen the Namib yet. Many of these young people came for a few weeks, and ended up staying many years. It is easy to see why this is so – there is space around, untouched by human hands; there is wilderness with nature in its rawest form; and there are sunsets that are beautiful beyond description. But it is more than the sheer beauty of nature. Gobabeb is a place of learning, where curiosity about our world, and the science that satisfies this curiosity, drives education, development and living. We believe that our focus on science-based education uniquely empowers our people to live sustainably in a fragile environment.
There are a number of ways in which you can experience all of this. Apart from temporary and long-term positions in either Training or Research Support, we regularly have internship positions available. Often we also host postgraduate students and run regular training courses for schools and tertiary students.
