The Husab Sand Lizard

Gobabeb is excited to be undertaking research on the Husab Sand Lizard. This unique lizard occurs only in the central Namib Desert and, more importantly, it occurs exactly in the region where some of Namibia’s most valuable uranium deposits are located. It is a prime example of a species that is highly vulnerable to extinction because of human activities, but scientists still don’t know enough about it to gauge the level of threat, or to design smart solutions to the problem. With that in mind, Gobabeb has launched a project to study this intriguing light brown, slender lizard in its natural habitat. Read more about the Husab Sand Lizard Project here.
