Gobabeb Research & Training Centre

Namib Sand Sea inaugurated

The Namib Sand Sea World Heritage Site was inaugurated on Friday 06 April 2018, by Honourable Katrina Hanse Himarwa, Minister of Education Arts and Culture. In inscribing the property in 2013, the World Heritage Committee specifically requested Namibia to “strengthen management capacity in terms of financial and human resources, including the highly effective support provided to the property by the Gobabeb Training and Research Centre.”

Working in close collaboration

with relevant authorities (Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and the National Museum of Namibia), and with strong support from the Fund for Local Cooperation of the Embassy of Finland, Gobabeb has embraced its role as information clearing house; research and monitoring centre; and educational and training centre for the Namib Sand Sea.
