Understanding Juttadinteria albata for ecological restoration at Sendelingsdrif

MSc Biology student, Lineekela T. Nauyoma, a Gobabeb student associate, is currently finalising his thesis for submission to the University of Namibia.

In summarising the outcome of his research, Lineekela says: 

My study at NAMDEB’s new Sendelingsdrif diamond mine concentrated on understanding the biology and ecology of Juttadinteria albata.

Post Doctoral position in Meteorology or Climatology

The Gobabeb Research and Training Centre has a Post Doctoral position open for persons interested in meteorology or climatology to oversee and contribute to the scientific output of their varied climatology progamme. With SASSCAL/ FogNet funding, the Centre is investigating all aspects of the occurrence of fog, a key component of the Namib ecosystem, and its potential alteration with climate change.

On Thursday 12 June 2014, Gobabeb formally received three research grants from the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST), under the Namibia/South Africa Joint Bilateral Collaboration Research Programme.

Water and Microbes in the Desert

When most people think of life in the Namib Desert, they may picture the majestic oryx, bizarre ostrich, or Namibia’s enigmatic Welwitschia mirabilis. But for the last month, Dr. Aline Frossard, has been studying something much hard to see: microscopic organisms in the soil.
